Library : Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management Delhi

To fulfil its objectives, LBSRC is constantly developing a core collection of its learning resources on its main subject areas like history, economics, sociology, political science, public administration, philosophy and religion. Furthermore, published collected works of prominent national leaders such as Mahatma Gandhi, Jawahar Lal Nehru, G.B. Pant, Jai Prakash Narayan, have also been acquired. This collection comprises of 2,000 select volumes of books. The library has 2500 news clippings on the life and times of Shastriji, in print as well as digital format, CDs, and over 100 relevant newspapers, periodicals and journals also. There are as many as 50 rare books on Shastriji’s life. Immensely useful select bibliography and articles on him are available to facilitate further research by the scholars.

Highly automated and using state-of-the-art ICT, the library is fully air-conditioned and provides a range of facilities and services to its very diverse groups of users, comprising scientists, researchers, politicians, policy makers, corporate, administrators, and social reformers. Library is well equipped with OPAC for accessing its resources. It is a member of Delhi Library Network (DELNET) also. Comfortable sitting arrangements, facility of using study carals, an elegant reading room ornated with focused lights and its aesthetic ambience are suitable for contemplation and research.

Library is headed by a professionally qualified librarian for any help sought by potential researchers, particularly in database searching, internet browsing, e-resource access, and many other current awareness and select dissemination of information services.Several useful bibliographic compilations and newspaper clipping services issued by the library have remained user favorites.

The Three Year Full-Time Post Graduate Programme in Master of Computer Applications (MCA) consists of Six Semesters as per the syllabus and schedule of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Delhi.

Eligibility conditions, admission procedure and fees will be as per G.G.S. Indraprastha University rules. Likely date of commencement of the course is August 01, 2008

Eligibility

Graduate in any discipline from a recognized Indian or Foreign University preferably with a minimum of two years work experience at executive level in an industrial, commercial, service and government organization.

In accordance with the slogan “Jai Jawan Jai Kisan” of Shri Shastriji, LBSIM provides management education to defence personnel at a very concessional fee structure.

Admission Procedure

Admission shall be through Group Discussion and Interview to be held in the third week of April 2009 at LBS Institute of Management, R.K. Puram, New Delhi. However, the exact date will be intimated by post. The final selection will be based on performance in group discussion, interview, academic performance and work experience. Selected candidates will be intimated by Registered Post/ Courier / Ordinary Post. No regret letters will be sent to those who do not make the grade. The Institute does not take any responsibility for postal delays and / or loss in transit.

The Three Year Post Graduate Programme in Management (Evening) consists of Six Semesters. The First Three Semesters primarily focus on basic courses to build a foundation of knowledge and skills required for more specialised study in various functional areas to be pursued in Second Year (Fourth Semester) and Third Year of the Programme. Ph.D. Programme Admission: International Management Institute, Delhi

The Programme offers specialization in the following areas:

Eligibility:

(a) An applicant possessing any one of the following qualifications shall be eligible to apply for admission to a Ph.D. programme.

(i) A Master’s degree in Management, Engineering, Technology, Science, Architecture, Humanities, Commerce, Medicine, Law, Education or Pharmacy from a recognized Indian University, or a degree approved by Association of Indian Universities, or any other equivalent qualification to the satisfaction of the Academic Council of the University, in the relevant field with not less than 60% marks in aggregate.

(ii) Applicants with a Bachelor’s degree in engineering technology or any other professional discipline, with either 75% or more marks in aggregate and a minimum of three years of relevant experience or 60% or more marks in aggregate and a minimum of fifteen years relevant experience in recognized Institute, University, Industry or Government Organization, may be considered eligible for admission, on the recommendation of School Research Committee (SRC) and approval by Board of Studies (BOS ) provided that such applicants may, in cases considered essential, be required to qualify in the courses specified by the SRC/BOS.

(iii) For applicants belonging to SC/ST category and/or physically handicapped applicants, a relaxation of 5% in marks shall be admissible under eligibility conditions prescribed under sub-clauses (a) (i), (ii).

(iv) Teachers working in any University or its affiliated colleges and having a teaching/research/other relevant experience of not less than 5 years, may be allowed a relaxation of 5% marks under clause (a) (i).

A few of the Indian residents joining the Ph.D. Programme may be given a fellowship of Rs.15,000 per month. They will be selected based on the candidates’ performance in the entrance examination. Fellow Programme in Management Admission

The Programme offers Full –Time Programmes in the following areas:

Eligibility:

Post-Graduate degree or equivalent in any discipline (including M.A, M.Sc., M.Com, MBA, MCA and M.Tech.) with at least 55% marks or equivalent CGPA. CA, ICWA or CS with at least 50% marks. Other professional qualifications such as MBBS and LLB with at least 55% marks or equivalent CGPA. Engineering degrees, viz., B.Tech and BE, with at least 60% marks or equivalent CGPA.

Those appearing for the final exams can also apply; but their final selection will be subject to successful completion of the requirement.
Selection will be based on applicant’s profile and test scores in CAT/ GMAT/ GRE (general/advanced), UGC/CSIR/ICAR/JRF or GATE and personal interview.

The short listed candidates will be called for personal interview at IMI New Delhi or any other venue fixed by the Institute on dates to be mentioned in the call letter for interview. In the interviews, the candidates will be assessed for their intellectual capabilities and research aptitude as well as their interest in management discipline.

THE PROGRAMME
Keeping in view the commitment of IMI to promote post-experience management education in the country, the three-year part-time Post-Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) was started by the Institute in July 1986. This programme is recognized by Ministry of Human Resources, Government of India, and approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

The programme is designed to impart knowledge and skills in the basic and functional areas of management. It is meant for young individuals who are working as middle / junior level executives / officers in public or private sector organizations, but have not had an opportunity to acquire formal management education. Being a part-time (evening) programme, it is open to those working in and around Delhi.

OBJECTIVES
to impart theoretical knowledge in all the basic and functional areas of management
to develop analytical, problem solving and decision making capabilities among the participants by exposing them to the use of various management tools and techniques
to stimulate understanding of the real business world through emphasis on cases that simulate real-life situations
to inculcate values and attitudes which contribute for social awareness and responsibility.

The curriculum is designed to prepare managers for successful careers in a wide variety of business and governmental organizations. The three-year evening programme is divided into nine terms. During the first half of the programme, the participants are required to take a number of compulsory courses in the following areas:

i) basic areas (economics, organizational behaviour)
ii) techniques (statistics, research methods, IT applications)
iii) functional areas (marketing, finance, personnel and operations); and
iv) integrative areas (business policy, international management).

In the second half of the programme, participants pursue their special interests in greater depth by taking a number of courses from the list of electives. In the second year the participants are required to take a course of independent study equivalent to 2 credits that will require them to write a case/case-study in any functional area of management on the company in which they are working. The case has to be written under the supervision of a faculty guide from the institute. This requirement has to be completed by the end of the second year of the programme. Those participants, who do not get permission from the respective organization for working on their case/case-study can opt for two extra elective courses in lieu of the case/casestudy requirement. During the summer vacation, between the second and the third year, participants are required to undertake the field project work.

ACADEMIC YEAR

IMI follows the Calendar of July to April as its academic year with slight modifications as may be necessary on year-to-year basis. Detailed schedules for each Trimester are provided at the beginning of the term.

ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSIONS

Admission is open to executives/officers located in and around Delhi and working in any of the following:
business, industry or commerce
manufacturing or service
government departments
defence services
banks and financial institutions

Eligible candidates must fulfill the following requirements:

- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a recognized Indian (10+2+3 system) or foreign university.
- Have a minimum of 2 years post-degree full-time experience at executive level.

Owners and managers of small & mediumsized enterprises who are desirous of acquiring formal management education may also apply.

This is a 15 month programme for enabling executives with serious work experience to take up lateral level management positions. This programme provides general management and functional area skills to executives with a variety of sectoral experiences from their previous work experience. The programme will have Indian as well as international participants making for a cross-cultural environment and international experience sharing.

OBJECTIVES

To equip seasoned executives with management skills necessary to succeed in leadership roles.
To supplement existing sectoral expertise of participants with general management and functional area knowledge.
To provide a platform for developing an international business mindset with appreciation for cross-cultural issues in a rapidly changing global economy.

ELIGIBILITY

• Graduates in the 10+2+3 system in any discipline recognized by the Association of Indian Universities (includes a large number of Indian as well as international degrees).
• Post-degree full-time experience of preferably 5 years.
• High proficiency in written and verbal communication in English.

PARTICIPANTS PROFILE

Executives with preferably 5 years or more of full-time post graduation work experience who have the potential to be leaders and shapers of their companies in the international business arena. Participants can belong to the following categories:

Self sponsored executives who finance their participation in the programme.

Company sponsored executives who would return to their companies after the programme.

Owner managers who take time off from their businesses and would return to their businesses after the programme.

International professionals from countries with whom the Government of India runs scholarship programmes as well as fee paying students who would return to their country after the programme.

Placement Assistance

IMI will provide assistance in lateral placement for self sponsored participants.

Programme Duration

15 months starting from 23rd June, 2008. This will include 12 months of full-time course work plus 3 months of project work that can be conducted in the company the participant is employed in. Full time course-work will include an optional 3 weeks International Study Tour.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE

Candidates will be required to take either the GMAT or a written test at the IMI Campus. In addition, candidates will also be interview at the IMI campus. International students under the Government of India Scholarship Programme will be interviewed at the Indian Embassy in their country. International fee paying students will have to submit TOFEL scores in addition to GMAT scores.

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE AND CURRICULUM

The programme is built around 12 months of course work and a 3 month project at the end of the course work. The project will be conducted at the place of employment of the participant where they will be working after completing their 12 months of course work. The project will be jointly guided by an IMI faculty and a project supervisor from the employer organization.

Approved by AICTE, the program prepares a cadre of HR professionals equipped with appropriate values, perspective, and competencies to become a catalyst in developing a culture of excellence in the organization.

Appropriate structures, systems and culture needs to be designed to facilitate not only open sharing of ideas but also continuous innovation by capturing the creative potentials of organization members. HR professionals with holistic perspective and in depth understanding of the fundamentals of related disciplines providing the foundation of people management with strong service orientation will be needed to address proactively to the challenges of future. In addition, insights into the various HR subsystems of stakeholders will be necessary conditions for enabling them to contribute to the attainment of organizational goals and purposes.

The Program with a difference :

The unique features of this program include :
A proper blend of theoretical rigor and exposure to the real world through interactive sessions with key stake holders-professional from government, management, trade unions and civil society institutions. Interfacing with local revenue administration, conciliation machinery, law and order, judiciary and such other regulatory bodies on a continuing basis. Block field work, at least once a week, with select organization(s) during the third term for hands on exposure to systems, policies, procedures and practices. Adequate emphasis on costing, measurement and diagnostic and analytical research in different subsystems of HR and their inter linkages with the overall business. This will be done through course work, internship, live projects, term papers and dissertation. For better comprehension of social and developmental issues which have a bearing on people and their lives the participants will be attached to non- governmental and other voluntary organizations for a specified period. Though a balanced menu, the program prepares the students well rounded in all sub areas of HR.

The practical component of the curriculum further include inputs by practitioners, block field work in select organization(s), 8-week internship in a company and another 2- week internship in an NGO working on social and labor issues.

Academic Qualification

A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with 50% aggregate marks in any discipline under 10 + 2+ 3 system from a recognized University. The Program

Approved and accredited by AICTE, the program equips participants with fundamental management skills and in-depth knowledge of their chosen area of specialization. IMI through its international alliances has evolved a contemporary program with focus on core management areas and offers carefully selected elective courses which are regularly up-dated.

To prepare the participants to manage and lead in an increasingly integrated business environment that transcends national borders.
To develop conceptual and analytical skills and an in-depth understanding of functional areas to gain practical business experience
The program is challenging, the curriculum is rigorous and the selection procedure is highly competitive. As a result IMI seeks candidates whose abilities, skills and personality indicate strong potential for success in the future.

Academic Year

IMI follows the Calendar of June to March as its academic year with slight modification as may be necessary on year-to-year basis. Detailed schedules for each Trimester are provided at the beginning of the term.

Eligibility

The Program is targeted at individuals with high potential for success in their chosen career. Selection is therefore very rigorous and competitive.

Academic Qualification

A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with 50% aggregate marks in any discipline under 10 + 2+ 3 system from a recognized University. A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification obtained by the candidate must entail a minimum of three years of education after completing higher secondary schooling (10+2) or equivalent. Candidates appearing in the final year of their bachelor’s degree are also eligible, provided they complete all formalities of their examination before June 30, 2009 and furnish the proof of having met the minimum eligibility criteria by September 30, 2009.

Admission Procedure

1. Application : IMI Brochure and Application Form and brochure can be acquired by one time payment of Rs. 1500/- for one program. An applicant can apply for the other long term program (PGDM-HR) on an additional payment of Rs.500 for an additional application form through the following means.
By cash payment at IMI
By post (enclosing demand draft drawn in favour of IMI payable at Delhi)
On-line application through http://www.imi.edu/. (need to make a payment by credit card) (on-line availability and mailing of Brochure and Application material will begin from August 8, 2008).

2. Admission Test: Candidates are required to appear for the Common Admission Test (CAT) conducted by Indian Institutes of Management at different Centres all over the country. The CAT examination will be held on November 16, 2008. IMI will receive the test scores from the IIM for those candidates who have appeared in the CAT and have also applied to IMI for the two-year PGDM and PGDM-HR. IMI uses CAT scores as one of several criteria for short-listing candidates. IIMs have no role either in the selection process or in the conduct of the program.
Foreign students and NRI sponsored candidates are required to take the Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) at a test centre outside India.

3. Group Discussion and Interview: Group Discussion and personal interview are integral components of the admissions’ process. Besides, the selection procedure also entails evaluating writing skills. The overall objective is to identify and assess the candidate’s communication ability, in addition to the overall knowledge of the student. Besides Delhi, the selection process is normally conducted at other centres including Bangalore, Chandigarh, Kolkata, Mumbai, Nagpur, Jaipur, Trivandrum & Hyderabad. Candidates should indicate their preferred centre(s) for interview in the application form. If a candidate’s preferred centre is not available, the candidate will be informed of the change. IMI reserves the right to cancel any of the centres for the selection process.

4. Admission Offer: Final selection will be based on a careful evaluation of the applicant’s academic record from class X, hight through to graduation and/or post graduate qualification, work experience (if any), extra curricular activities, Group Discussion and personal Interview. Successful candidates will be informed of their final selection by March, 2009. The selected candidates must pay their first fee installment within two weeks of receiving the admission offer, failing which the offer will be withdrawn.

COURSE STRUCTURE AND CURRICULUM

Candidates are required to take 34 Courses spread over three years; inclusive of electives and exclusive of Course of Independent Study (2 credits) and Field Project (2 credits). A full course will have a weight of 1.0 and comprise of 24 sessions, except the field project. The classes are scheduled from 6.30 pm to 9.30 pm (3 to 5 days a week). Two sessions of the same course are covered in one evening and normally sessions in a particular course are scheduled once a week.

PROGRAMME CONTENT*

The programme is designed for delivery in 4 terms of course work followed by a project. The 4 terms will span about 12 months and the project will be completed over 3 months. The complete programme will be worth 81 credits. Each credit corresponds to the equivalent of 10 hours of classroom contact. Out of 81 credits, 72 credits will be course work and 9 credits will be the project.

Electives: With the commencement of the third term of first year, the participants will indicate the choice of area of specialization in second year. A minimum of 7 courses must taken in an area to declare it as major. A minimum of 5 courses must be taken in an year to declare it as minor. A student cannot declare 2 majors. Even if he/she takes 7 courses each in two different areas, only one of the these two areas can be declared as a major and the other must be declared as minor. The single declared major will go in the placement brochure that all companies will see. If a company comes to campus and asks for Finance majors only, then only those students who have declared Finance as their major in the placement brochure can apply. If the number of participants specializing in any area is less than 15, the specialization request may not be entertained.
